We began today's class with a video (PBS Home Video: The Secret Life of the Brain- more info: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/brain/ )

I found many parts of this video interesting. In particular, I found the section on dyslexia rather fascinating. As a resource teacher, I work daily with students who have dyslexia and any additional information that I can learn on the topic is of great interest to me.
Today's class was primarily spent working on our Reading Process Task Analysis assignment (See previous post). What a task this was! Two classmates and myself drew upon our knowledge of the reading process and research we completed on the internet and through articles supplied by our instructor to compile the task analysis using Kidspirations software (http://www.inspiration.com/Kidspiration). I particularly liked the way this assignment was formulated... having us utilize the computer software to convey our message was great. I have used this program before in another technology course, but I have learned a great deal playing around with it and will definitely use it again.
I learned a lot today about the reading process. I have extensive training in literacy but have not had to lay it out before in such a format that allows me to think and then visually see all of the tasks that are associated with the reading process.
At this rate, it's a wonder any of us can read at all!
Here is a peek at our Reading Process Task Analysis. This was completed by Julie Baldwin, Angela Paddock and myself.
